Decompression
DTS Decompression-Traction
- What is DTS Spinal Decompression?
-DTS spinal decompression therapy is a NON-Surgical, traction based therapy for the relief of back and leg pain or neck and arm pain. This highly successful treatment focuses on the spinal discs, the cartilaginous "shock absorbers" between your spinal bones (vertebrae). Injured discs may bulge or protrude upon surrounding structures that may cause pain in that area or travel down the extremity. The DTS therapy provides a state of negative pressure in the disc by cycling through programmed distraction and relaxation phases. This action causes a vacuum effect within the disc, enabling the protruded material to be pulled back within the normal parameters of the disc while simultaneously providing a healing response by putting nutrients into the area.
- Who can benefit from Spinal Decompression Therapy?
-Anyone who has low back or neck pain that is caused in whole or in part by a damaged disc may be benefited by spinal DTS therapy. These conditions include protruded or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, or radiating pain down the arms or legs.
- Are there conditions that DTS therapy is not indicated for?
-Yes. Patients who have had spinal surgery with hardware (screws, plates, cages, rods, etc.) are contra-indicated. Also, pregnant women, patients with severe nerve damage, severe osteoporosis, and severe obesity are not candidates for DTS therapy.
- What does DTS therapy feel like?
-DTS therapy is comfortable and gentle. Most patients report a mild sense of stretch to the area being treated and enjoy their sessions.
- How is spinal decompression different from regular traction?
-The award winning computer in the traction head is the first reason of the greater success of the DTS unit over regular traction devices. It controls variations in the traction pull, which allows for spinal decompression while eliminating muscle guarding that is typical of conventional traction devices. These preprogrammed patterns for increasing and decreasing the amount of axial distraction allows for higher levels of spinal decompression and disc rehydration.
-The second reason DTS is superior over other devices is the spring loaded sliding low back apparatus that accommodates more consistent and effective axial distraction.
- How long will it take to get better?
-Every patient is different, but we typically utilize DTS therapy three times a week for one month. Many patients report benefiting from the treatments within six sessions. Further treatments may be necessary or a reduction in visits may be advised. DTS therapy will be used in conjunction with chiropractic treatments and other sophisticated therapeutic modalities to get you better as quick as possible.
- How much will it cost?
-DTS therapy is a form of traction and covered by most insurance companies. Our staff will let you know prior to treatment if DTS therapy is covered by your plan. If you do not have insurance DTS therapy will cost an additional $30 per visit.
